This week at Rotary we had committee meetings at various venues. I went along to the International Committee meeting at the Waurn Ponds Hotel. David Sinclair and Ken Mansfield had invited the International Directors from each club in the Geelong area  to the meeting, and l applaud them on this initiative. Most clubs were represented, and there was a very positive atmosphere.

The presentation of Rotary Junior Community Awards continued at Grovedale Primary on Friday. Anne Cox and myself went to the school assembly and presented six awards.

Our Open Garden Day will be on Sunday. Many club members, Friends of Rotary and Rotaract members have offered to donate slices and biscuits, and to help on the day. Thank you all! As l write this there are a few more spots on the roster to fill, and an email will be sent asking for  help filling those places.

Jim Mulcahy has asked me to remind members that volunteers are needed at Christchurch for December 7th. This is the night we host our Christmas  BBQ, and we are not having a club meeting that week so that we can all join in!  Jim and Anne have gone to Qld this week  for the funeral of Annes’ mother.

Next week at our meeting it is our AGM. Nominations for all Board positions have been called for. Our guest speaker is  Jan McGowan, on the History of the Christchurch meals program. We also have two members from the Rotaract Club of Barwon coming to say a few words about their fundraising event.

A note from Barwon Rotaract

The Rotaract Club of Barwon Inc. is collaborating with two Rotaract Clubs back in Sri Lanka to host a fundraising afternoon tea on the 27th of November. All profits will go on to rebuilding homes for the victims affected by a devastating flood which hit Sri Lanka in May 2016. It affected over 356,000 people, and 37 people lost their lives due to landslides and the heavy floods. The funds raised from this event would go on as contributions to help victims get back on their feet.
If you wish to further donate and contribute to the cause, a GoFundMe page has been set up and can be accessed via this link: https://www.gofundme.com/reawakeningaranayake You can access information on the event on facebook via this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/107679456378128/ Tickets can be bought online at: https://www.trybooking.com/242534
I humbly encourage members of Highton Rotary to join us for an afternoon packed with events like a tea tasting demonstration, an auction, and a raffle draw while you get to snack on popular Sri Lankan snacks, tea and Sri Lankan music.
We understand that the Highton Rotary Open Gardens Day is on the same day as our event, but your participation is still important to us. We hope to see you there and look forward to your support for this worthy cause.
Opens Gardens Day

Our Open Gardens Day is next Sunday November 27, and if you haven't yet let David know if you can help out, or Judy know about bringing some food, there is still time.

Tour opportunity for Australian Rotarians via The Rotary Club of Pakuranga
This invitation to join a tour of NZ for Australian Rotarians came to us from The Rotary Club of Pakuranga, Auckland NZ

"This tour is 2 weeks long, covers both islands and includes a Rotary host couple and a professional Tour Guide. We are also limiting the quantity of participants to 30 maximum
to ensure it is manageable, friendly and that all participants will be fully involved. So once we get 30 participants we will be closing applications.

The tour starts on the 30th March 2017 and runs through to Friday 14th April. (Easter Friday) Several meals and tours are included within the price (see later)
There are also some ‘free periods’ where you can select what you would prefer to do, and pay direct."

Update coming for the Rotary International Website rotary.org
The international website of Rotary International, www.rotary.org is getting a facelift.  In January 2017 both the public and Rotarian only pages will have a great new look, using images more than words to showcase the work of Rotary.  This is a quick update taken from the weekly newsletter Rotary Leader.  Every Rotarian in the world can create a personal login to this website, and view lots of Rotary information, statistics etc. that is not available to the public.
