Last Thursday was our Changeover  Meeting when David Farnsworth was inducted as President for 2015-16.
Bruce Nankervis and Colin Bayliss were presented with Paul Harris Recognitions by DGE Jane Cox in recognition of their service to the Club.
Pam Carroll was presented with a Royce Abbey Award as a result of her enthusiastic first few years with the Club, and her willingness to be involved in Club activities.
Stephen Bath and Terri Bosna were presented with Presidents Awards for their outstanding service during the year.
The night went off smoothly with our new Board installed and the Annual Report and Blue Book issued.
The Club has now set sail on its 41st year with a new member, Merridee Cartledge, inducted.  Congratulations to David and the new Board.
Unfortunately Don Williams tendered his resignation on the evening.  Don has been a Rotarian for 40 years and has served in 5 clubs including a period as Treasurer of our Club.  We wish Don and June well for the future as Friends of Rotary.
Other news is that Tony Stewart has transferred to Geelong Central and was inducted last Tuesday.
Marie Louise was also present at Changeover, and she departed for Denmark on Saturday evening.  She was farewelled at the Airport by Mark and Pam Seller and her current host family, Jo Dodds and Rosie Smith.
I would like to thank all Club members for their consistent support over the past 12 months.

Regards
Ian Campbell
President 2014-15

Apologies for no report on the absolutely great evening we had for our changeover.
Good food, good fellowship, and the opportunity to serve through Rotary really says it all.
Just at the moment all avenues for communication except my mobile phone are out of action - internet, email, all disappeared. Seems that the computer changeover at work isn't going as expected.
Have you ever tried to do the bulletin on a mobile phone ??????
What you can expect however is a full report next week.
Cheers
Paul

It will be a night for youth inspiring youth with both our RYLA candidate, Ashish Motiani, and guest speaker Dr Mick Fielding, in attendance.

Dr Mick Fielding is a Senior Research Fellow at Deakin University’s Centre for Intelligent Systems Research (CISR).  In 2004 Mick graduated with honours from a Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics) and was awarded his Ph.D in 2012.  While at CISR, he has contributed to more than 150 projects and is a key developer of CISR’s haptically-enabled bomb disposal robot, OzTouch, an internationally unique system funded by the Australian Defence Force. Dr Fielding’s presentation is titled “Why we were asked to invent OzTouch” and will provide unique insight into the development of a highly innovative and world-leading robotic system.  The presentation will conclude with a live demonstration of the developed technology.

Polio this week as of 17 June 2015

  • An Independent Outbreak Response Assessment in Equatorial Guinea took place last week with over a year since the most recent case of polio on the 3 May 2014. They concluded that there is no evidence that wild poliovirus continues to circulate in the country and that there has been a significant improvement in surveillance. Strengthening routine immunization was identified as the highest priority for sustaining the gains of the outbreak response.
  • Expert groups in polio-infected areas are actively evaluating progress. Last week, the Technical Advisory Group for Afghanistan and Pakistan met to review the latest epidemiology, while this week an international outbreak assessment team is evaluating the situation in the Horn of Africa. Similar expert bodies will convene in other infected areas/countries over the coming months.

After every flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight.
Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor!
Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers.
(P = the problem logged by the pilot.) (S = the solution and action taken by the engineers.)
