Snr Sgt Tony Francis's presentation on the drug ICE (methamphetamine) and its impact in the community was a real shocker. The ongoing ICE epidemic is causing massive widespread problems in our Geelong and district community. This is the worst drug crisis that this community has faced.  I believe that Rotary, as a key community group, has a role in helping to resolve this problem.
Some of the consequences of taking ICE on families, employers, ambulance, medical, hospital and police are a major cause of concern for all the community.

Following an Ideas Summit in October '14 the current 'Our Towns Ice Fight' initiative was launched as a series of projects in November. It was decided that the most effective solution to counter the impact of ICE is for the community to work together on implementing a series of projects to address the problem on an holistic community basis.

One solution being implemented is the  "Clubs that Care" program where community organizations, sporting clubs, schools and other community groups are being encouraged to take a consistent approach to victims, a supportive, welfare based, non-punitive response to the problem.

I have requested that the 14 Rotary Clubs of Geelong unite to form a combined Rotary Community Action Taskforce to coordinate Rotary Community Service support for this very important community project.  This support could be both financial and hands on support for this initiative.

I will keep the club posted on developments.
Regards,
Ian C

Ian welcomed our guests - Shaylee Peel and Keeley Morris (Rotaract), Mary Armstrong and Phil Bishop as well as our guest speaker and quite a few spouses/partners.

He then congratulated the organisers of the Days for Girls fundraising breakfast - over 100 registrations means it'll be a winner !!

More congratualations are in order for Ken and the International team for our participation in the Nepal Water project - we have a photo of the Foundation stone laying ceremony so things are underway. There will be an opportunity to view the completed project on completion - probably November. More news later.

Please find the latest Volunteer Spreadsheets attached, both the detailed one for your benefit and the less detailed one for public distribution.

I have also modified the Volunteer calculator table so that you can track how your club is performing against target.

Please remember that this is event is a collaborative effort by the combined Geelong Clubs in a District project that you all committed to. We are pioneering new ground embarking on a project of this magnitude within our District and it is really our opportunity to show the Rotary world just what can be achieved when clubs join forces.
We are now less than 5 weeks from the event and the organising committee is getting down to the serious end of business. The greatest priorities for us all are:-
a.       Promoting the event to attract as many entrants  as possible for ultimately this is what generates the dollars for Rotary.
1            We have DL cards and A3 posters available for distribution (please contact Tony Stewart or John Paton for these) which need to be placed anywhere cyclists hang out in Shops, coffee shops, bike shops etc. If your members know of any suitable locations please help with this.
II.            Ensure that the event is promoted in your Club Bulletins, especially the website and Facebook page (see details below)
III.            Encourage Facebook users in your Clubs to please 'like' the event page and “share” it amongst their own friends
b.      Make sure that your club is contributing your fair share of volunteers to the event. There are still lots of tasks available across all times and locations. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further details.

Your Club will be visited by one of the event committee soon to update your members about the event so if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask them.

Yours in Rotary
Greg Plumridge

Two policemen call the station on their radio.
 "Hello. Is that the Sarge?"
 "Yes?"
"We have a case here. A woman has shot her husband for stepping on the floor she had just mopped clean."
 "Have you arrested the woman?"
"No sir. The floor is still wet."

At Wollongong University, there were four students taking chemistry and all of them had an 'A' so far. These four friends were so confident that the weekend before finals, they decided to go to Sydney and visit some friends and have a big party. They had a great time but, after all the partying, they slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to the Uni until late Monday morning.

Rather than taking the final then, they decided that after the final they would explain to their Professor why they missed it. They said that they visited friends but on the way back they had a flat tyre and found there was no spare in the car. As a result, they missed the final.

The Professor agreed they could make up the final the next day. The guys were excited and relieved. They studied that night for the exam.

The next day the Professor placed them in separate rooms and gave them a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem worth 5 points. Cool, they thought!

Each one in separate rooms, thought this was going to be easy ... then they turned the page. On the second page was written.
For 95 points: Which tyre went flat?

One day two blokes (of whatever nationality you like to assume) were paging through the Sears Catalog and admiring all the beautiful models.
Bert said to Fred, "Have you seen the pretty girls in this catalogue?"
Fred replied "Yes. They sure are beautiful, an just look at the prices!"
Bert said "Jumping Jimminy. They ain't very expensive. At these prices I'm buying one."
Fred smiled, patted Bert on the back and said, "by golly Bert, if she's as pretty as she looks in the catalogue, I'll get one too."
Three weeks later Fred came by and asked Bert, "did you ever get that girl you ordered from the Sears Catalogue?"
Bert replied, "no, but it won't be long now, her clothes came yesterday!"
